Summary:
This newly created position will support Breezelines transformational initiative to offer desktop as a service to all Breezeline colleagues.
The VDI System Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and performance management of the Virtual Desktop Environment.
This role requires a seasoned engineer that has worked within a large scale VMWare environment supporting the underlying infrastructure and VMWare Horizon.

Responsibilities:
VDI Design and Implementation:
Design and architect virtual desktop infrastructure solutions based on business requirements.
Implement and configure VDI technologies, including hypervisors, connection brokers, load balancers and storage devices.
Participate in the design for firewall and routing requirements with the networking team.
Collaborate with the Systems infrastructure team to ensure proper integration of VDI components with the existing IT infrastructure.
In partnership with the InfoSec team to define the user access and security model for the VDI environment.
Perform capacity planning and scalability assessments to support future growth and demand.
Design and implement Active Directory GPOs, OUs, and Groups for the VDI environment to support solutions such as DEM, FSLogix, and Horizon App Volumes.
Creation and maintenance of disaster recovery plan, design, and lead regular disaster recovery testing within the VDI environment.
Participate in regular cadence meetings with business partners to ensure a frictionless user experience.
Define patch management process and creation of patch automation for VDI infrastructure and VDI desktops, working within a formal change management board.
Performance Optimization and Tuning:
Identify and analyze performance bottlenecks in the VDI infrastructure.
Conduct performance tuning activities to optimize resource utilization and enhance user experience.
Monitor and analyze VDI metrics and usage patterns to proactively identify areas for improvement.
Recommend and implement enhancements to improve scalability, reliability, and performance.
Matching VDI workloads to leverage appropriate classes of storage.
Operations Day to day administration of VMware Horizon environment.
Oversight of the change management process for the VDI environment.
Mentor and collaborate with IT Operations Support staff and VDI Desktop Engineer.
Ensure the operations support staff is active with the support and maintenance of desktop images and pools.
Administration of Active Directory users, computers, and group policies for the VDI environment.
Advanced troubleshooting for escalated Tier 3 issues.
Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours escalation.
Leverage and maintain the QA environment, for testing new installations, upgrades, and automations as it relates to the overall performance of the VDI environment.
Oversee VDI environment backup and restore ensuring compliance with data retention policies.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, configuration guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs to educate end-users and IT staff on VDI best practices.
Stay up to date with the latest VDI technologies, industry trends, and emerging solutions.
Creation of stable automation tools and processes to maintain the scalability of the VDI environment.
Patch management of Horizon servers, applications, and desktop pooled systems within the VDI environment.

Qualifications:
4 to 6 years administering and supporting the vSphere platform - vCenter, ESXi, and Horizon.
5 to 7 years administering and supporting Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and later.
5 to 7 years administering Active Directory, DNS, DFS, and profile management.
Experience with profile management with tools such as FSLogix or VMWare DEM.
Demonstrable experience architecting and designing VDI environments.
Experience contributing with hands-on execution of large scale VDI projects.
Scripting experience leveraging such as PowerShell, Python, or CLI.
Hands on experience with fundamental networking, including basic IP routing, switching, physical, and VLANs.
Experience with networking concepts, protocols, and security principles related to VDI.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and end-users.
Recent experience participating in the budgeting process with insight into capital and operating expenditure.
Relevant certifications, such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) are a plus.
